LSTA Direct Grants to Libraries
Massachusetts uses LSTA funding to provide libraries with direct grants to meet the needs of their community. There were two LSTA direct grants awarded to libraries in the Fifth Congressional District in 2024 totaling $34,050.
Below are the direct grants funded projects in the Fifth Congressional District:
-
Mind in the Making – Maynard Public Library $15,000
Maynard Public Library’s Children's Engagement project will address the community’s need for a more inclusive and educational 0-6 children’s play and programming experience. The project will develop a play area with materials that are stimulating and accessible to children across the developmental stages and that strengthen motor skills. There will be programming that explores sensory inputs, facilitates body awareness, and teaches communication and interaction skills. The project will also make educational experiences available to families outside of library hours by creating STEM and sensory kits for check-out.
-
Access for All – Wayland Free Public Library $19,050
Wayland Free Public Library will develop a home delivery service program for community members who are unable to visit the library due to lack of transportation, mobility or other physical challenges, including visual or hearing impairments, dementia or similar cognitive issues. The project will use grant funds to employ a part-time Outreach Services Coordinator who will recruit and train a core group of volunteers responsible for picking up and delivering materials on a scheduled basis to those living in their own homes or at one of the three assisted living and rehabilitation facilities in Wayland.
