Making a Local Difference
Whether it’s developing STEAM programming, help for entrepreneurs and small businesses, creating a Maker Space, or finding innovative ways to meet people’s needs, the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners’ (MBLC) Direct Grants to Libraries program is helping local libraries. Using federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the MBLC develops grant opportunities for public, school, academic, and special libraries that go beyond what local funding can do. Libraries use grants to address accessibility and inclusion for people with vision loss, dementia, or other health related concerns; small business development and assistance for entrepreneurs; English language learning, citizenship classes, and support for immigrants and more.
Statewide Programs and Services
With more than 25 million visits to Massachusetts public libraries last year, our libraries strive to be welcoming spaces for everyone. The MBLC targets federal funding to programs and initiatives that support education, access, and equity.
